PDF on Matlab01 handed out in class on 02/07

Once you have a MathWorks account, and maybe have installed MATLAB on your own machine, the easiest thing to do is to go to the shared MATLAB Drive within MATLAB or MATLAB Online. Note that you may have to install something else (the Drive connector...) in order to do this. There will be several m-files (files with ".m" as an extension) in that drive/folder.

  1. Copy Matlab01prob1.m to your own drive.

    • Within MATLAB: right click on the file, select "Copy".
    • Go to your own MATLAB drive. Easiest way is to click on MATLAB Drive

    • Within your own MATLAB Drive, right-click on the white space and select "Paste" to paste the copied file.
  2. Follow the same procedure to copy alabels.m to your own drive where you copied MATLAB01prob1.m.
  3. Open your MATLAB01prob1.m within MATLAB and change to your problem. Change my name to your name, change the formulas for xL, yL, zL, z1, etc. to the equations you were given in your s12-5, #10 WeBWorK problem. DO NOT SAVE IT AS A LIVE SCRIPT!
  4. Create the graphs for your 4 planes of the problem.
  5. Once they are all changed and running nicely, Publish as a PDF.
  6. Email me your ".m" file and published PDF file.

Loyola now has a campus-wide site license for MATLAB. This allows us to install MATLAB (for free!) on our own computers and have access to MATLAB Online, and the MATLAB Drive (cloud storage).

Read through and follow the directions on creating MathWorks account and installing MATLAB. This will allow you to access the MATLAB Drive, MATLAB Online, and the ability to install on your own computer or laptop if you have one.

  1. CONVENIENT: MATLAB Online You can access MATLAB from ANY computer with internet access through the browser. You must have a MathWorks account (see above) in addition to your Loyola credentials. This is the most convenient, but also the slowest.
  2. FASTER: MATH-STAT COMPUTER LAB. If you are finding that MATLAB Online is slow (for example, running it on the wireless in the dorm room when many others are streaming "Game of Thrones"), head to the Math/Stat Computer Lab in 318 Knott Hall. MATLAB IS INSTALLED ON EACH COMPUTER so no need to use MATLAB Online to access MATLAB in this computer lab. Also, these computers are not running over the wireless network, so will be even faster. All students enrolled in a MA/ST 200+ course has keycard access to the lab. If you don't, let me know right away to fix this. You will still want to login with your MathWorks account to access the MATLAB Drive.
  3. FASTEST: YOUR OWN MATLAB. If you have your own computer, you can download MATLAB for free under Loyola's license. See above for directions to create the MathWorks account and installing MATLAB on a PC or Mac.
